Ray Gaines works as a rescue helicopter pilot in Los Angeles. During his career, he saved many lives, but he could not save his own daughter Malory – a young girl once died during rafting. Ray blames himself for what happened. The tragedy and Ray's subsequent experiences caused his divorce from his wife.

When a powerful earthquake hits California, resulting in enormous destruction and hundreds of victims, in the general panic and chaos that is happening, Ray will have to mobilize all his forces to prevent the family tragedy that he experienced earlier and save his ex-wife and second daughter Blake.
