In his youth, Mr. Fredriksen promised his wife Ellie that they would definitely visit Paradise Falls in South America. Unnoticed, the whole life passed behind the affairs and worries, and Mr. Fredriksen did not have time to keep his promise, remaining a widower. After learning that the city authorities plan to demolish his house, the last thing he has left of a happy family life, he decides not to wait until he is moved to a nursing home, but to act first. He lifts his house into the air with the help of thousands of balloons and goes to fulfill the dream of his beloved.
