1942. Stalingrad. Soviet troops are planning a counteroffensive against the German units occupying the left bank of the Volga. The offensive is thwarted. Only the scouts under the command of Captain Gromov manage to move to the other side and gain a foothold in one of the houses. They have been given orders to keep him at all costs. In addition to a few miraculously surviving Soviet soldiers, they find in the house its last resident — 19-year-old Katya. The order to recapture the house captured by the enemy is received by the German officer Kahn. Against the backdrop of one of the bloodiest battles in the history of mankind, stories of love and dramatic confrontation of characters unfold.
