Baby Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) lives in a London orphanage. The girl suffers from insomnia, and one night she notices a huge, elderly giant who roams the city streets. The giant also notices the awake Sophie, and he kidnaps her and takes the girl to the land of the giants. There Sophie discovers

that all the other giants are much taller than her captor, and that they enter her world to devour children. On the contrary, the girl's new acquaintance eats only plants, and he roams the human world to give children good dreams. Over time, Sophie and the little giant become best friends, and she persuades him to show himself to the human authorities and help them get rid of the evil giants so that they will never again kidnap and eat babies.
